More seedlings emerge

More of the herb seeds we planted a couple of weeks ago are coming up. The calendula certainly won the race, but the chickweed (Stellaria) and the marshmallow are now showing as well.

  1. Hey there Witchy Poo!

I want to start a medicinal herb garden, what would be your priority herbs, Sweets?

  2. Hiya Gorgeous

WIth little ones around, number one herb would have to be Calendula (English marigold, Calendula officinalis). This is great for cuts, grazes and burns and makes a terrific ointment. Plant lots.

To sooth frayed nerves and calm things down with The Teen you could try chamomile (Anthemus nobile and Matricaria chamomila). Chamomile is great for babies of all ages!

Sore throats and tonsillitis will respond favourably to sage and thyme tea gargled.

Comfrey (Symphytum officinale) is number one for bones, but legally can only be applied externally.

Arnica (Arnica montana) is fantastic for bruises.

And no back yard would be complete without an elder (Sambucus nigra). This is great for a range of complaints and also for elderflower cordial and elderberry wine.

If you have specific complaints in mind, please let me know and I will advise accordingly.

    xx
